I'm sorry that you had to go through that. The names we were called and the treatment we received by our peers during those years leave lifelong scars.
Your story reminds me of a line I heard on a TV show. A teacher described some of the teenage girls in his school as "wolverines in glitter eyeshadow." So true.
I am sorry you had to go through that at high school. Thankfully that level of local "fame" of being front page of local news I think was very rare for Gen X kids. If you weren't on the front page and buried further in the paper you'd have likely got away with it.
In one sense Gen X was lucky this fame was so rare. Compared to GenZ/iGen at least, because if this happened to them it would be show on search engines every time their name is entered. It would be permanent. Worse their bullying/pranks and every move could be filmed and shared. GenZ find it harder to be "forgotten".
For me Fleet School then Haverstock and my alcoholic poet dad would come to parents evening in the PE hall and get thrown out by the PE teachers. A different kind of infamany Big school compared to fleet. No uniform thankfully. Same general mayhem and then at some point loads of portacabins. I hated that song too 😭
I had an awful time at primary school myself. School can be brutal. I think childhood is overly-romanticised personally.

I also hate "Come on Eileen". I'd probably feel neutral about it except for the fact that so many people think it's so great

A shitty experience turned into a good story!
Shitty experiences make good writing material!
Sounds all quite normal to me. Kids eh. to think, I used to be one.
